The Icelandic Military is under attack

Icelandic “Peace” keepers in Kabul, Afganistan, got attacked by a suicide bomber last week. People are quite shocked; we have our first “casualties” of war. I’m actually not surprised, what would you call these guys?

These are soldiers, right? In war in a hostile country?
Again we had discussions at the Parliament about these military actions a.k.a. peace keeping. Did we agree to participate in this war? Are there actually no better ways to serve peace for a nation like ours? I believe so.

Go girls!

A great picture from the merging of two of the biggest Universities in Iceland. The Dean of Reykjavik University is female so is the Dean of the Technical University of Iceland and also the the Minister of Education, Science and Culture. Pretty cool?!

Amish in Borgarfjordur

I had a remarkable Saturday. After heavy partying on Friday night, Agnes woke me up for WORK. Her father was renewing the roof of their house. Everybody except me showed up at 0830 for a coffee and a chat before beginning to work. There were eight of us, friends and family. In ten hours we renewed the roof. A work that would have cost at least 5.000€ if outsourced. All this work done for free and no one asking for a favor instead. A true Amish ideology. I liked this, old-school ideology.

Web Cam

We need some web cams at Bifrost.

Something like this cam from the University of New South Wales, "Australia".
No maybe not!! This would be more appropriate PSU.

We almost won them!

The Icelandic soccer team lost against Sweden 1-4 yesterday. A bad result, but some beautiful goals. Once again the nation is asking for the resignation of the coach (Or coaches because we have two). Well what do we think we are? A great soccer nation that should win Sweden, please! Stop these illusions! Iceland is an island in the North Atlantic Ocean with only quarter of a million inhabitants!! Get realistic…
Enjoy the game but stop the illusion!!

Reykjavik Grapevine

One of the best public papers in Iceland, aimed at the young hip visitor to Iceland, but at the same time a good mirror for our patriotic souls.
Two articles struck me in last issue that I want to share with you.
First one is called: Dressing for the occation by Kristinn Hrafnsson. It tells the tale of our "secret army" and how the government is changing the Icelandic way of being a peaceloving nation with no military. Now suddenly we see armed "soldiers" on the streets of Kabul with the Icelandic flag on their shoulders. How accepted this? Suddenly we are a nation at war! The pictures say all that needs to be said: Pic.1 , Pic.2
The second article is about the Kárahnjúkar Dam, the picture and the header struck me:
Are We In North Korea?
by Andri Snær Magnason

Back at beautifull Bifrost

Well, back at Bifrost. Now working on my MSc in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and doing some work for the University. After a long but rewarding summer in Greece I'm glad to be back.
Comming home to my beautifull girlfriend... To the view from my livingroom window... To my friends...
I've decided to start using this blog again to kick start my brain and to free some thoughts. Have you ever been in my position to wake up in the middle of the night with a "brilliant" idea?

Lets rock and roll...
